Tennyson was small but otherwise perfect and exceptionally bright. Everyone was sure that the littlest of girls would grow up to do big things. Which made the news of her Leukemia when she was 6 years old that much more heartbreaking. Tenny and her parents fought through and a few years later she was happy to announce that her cancer was in remission. Unfortunately, it didn't last. The night of her Junior Prom, Tennyson collapsed and tests showed that the cancer was back and spreading too quickly.

Her parents spent every last penny they had on treatments. So they really didn't have the money for the concert they took her to in Charlotte for her birthday but the band was her favorite and possibly her only chance to see them. It turned out to be the perfect night. When she started nodding off in the car on the way home, she was happy. She was ready to die.

Instead, she survived. Unfortunately, her parents weren't so lucky. When she woke up her parents were dead but the cancer was gone. The doctors called it a miracle. The decision to leave the Outer Banks was actually a lot easier than Tenny thought it would be. It was her home but once the house was sold and the car (lovingly named Beast) was packed, the hardest part was picking a direction. The smallest of girls had a great big world to see.
